Noteworthy News

Starting to use my new Macro lens attachment yesterday for closeups. It's not a bad investment for the money that's for sure.  Cheaper than a full macro lens....now to get used to it.  Will post some pictures.

The noteworthy news is that Jess finally got accepted into LPN Program so we were very excited for her and she has been wanting this for so long!  My Dad always wanted one of his girls to enter the Nursing Profession, I think it's because his sister was a  nurse and she was tragically killed in a car accident in her early 30's.  Guess Jess will be carrying the torch for her Pop seeing as none of us persued Nursing.

Here are a couple of those macro shots I took. Needs lots of practice as the focusing is a little different.  Have a good day...yes it's raining again!

No I haven't fallen off the face of the earth

Pretty much given up on my facebook account...I think they should have named it bragbook or gossipbook, seeing that's all that goes on there.  Too much drama for me.  I can't see how some people can put everything out there...TMI in my opinion.

So I was away with my family in Burin for a week.  So enjoyed that!  Really enjoyed time with my Mom.  she is 82 years young!!  Few pics of my nieces that I took.  Lots of things to do today, won't get into that cause that would be just like facebook lol.

James LeRoy

Been listening to some oldies lately....they don't make music like that anymore.  I am especially enjoying James LeRoy's music......his music kinda soothes me.  It's a mellow type of music that takes me back to my teenage days.  I would love to go back to those days, just for a very brief time.  Everything was so carefree and innocent. Mom was always there when I got home from school.  Things I took for granted, I have a newer and better appreciation for since being an adult with my own child.  My greatest hope is that I can be as good a Mom to Jessica as my Mom has been for me and my siblings.  I always say "if I can only be half the woman my Mom is, then my life is complete."  Dad was a very special and well respected man up until the day he died on February 13, 1993.....the day my whole world came crashing down.....he was my idol and my first love.  I was always a Daddy's little girl so when he passed, part of me died that day too.

I am going to my Mom's for a week.  Really looking forward to spending some time with her.  I don't have anything planned but just Mom/Daughter time and Jess is coming along too so that makes it even better.  Will be taking my camera with me so hopefully will take some pictures.

Can't believe this is June alrady...the weathr ahs been so cold and damp.  5 degrees today and very windy....guess  I will put the car in drive and the wind can take us!  Will write again during the week.

Trouble Brewing.....

Ok so I think there is trouble brewing at the birdhouse.  The Tree Swallows moved in about 2 weeks ago, now I have the problem of the Starlings sticking their heads in and picking at the nest.  Yesterday and today, a House Sparrow is trying to make its way into the nest as well.  My husband tells me to let nature take it's course...I on the other hand am trying to shoo the big Starlings away, don't know what to think of the House Sparrow.

The Evening Grosbeaks and Pine Siskins are back at the feeder this morning.  Had a Female Grosbeak and not sure if male or female siskin.

Excitement Much

Ok, so I am a little excited.  Had my submission to the Visual Ars Competition in Stephenville selected as 2nd prize winner.  I was debating as to enter or not as there is a class of Visual Arts/Photo Students in Stepehenville but I thought I would give it a try.  It was of the old house I photographed on Fogo Island last summer entitled  "Tumbling Down."

Now on to other stuff.  I went into Gander yesterday with Derek to see the Grads at CNA. It was a lovely graduation and very well catered to by Elizabeth's cooking class.  Took some pics so will share a few here.

Now onto the birds....I have hardly had time to see what's in the feeder.  Still getting American Goldfinches, Purple Finches, Pine Siskins, and of course the Tree Swallows are still nesting in the bird house. Here is a female Purple Finch.

It has been a few days

So, I was away for 4 days.  Home in Burin to visit my family.  Lots of fun and family memories and LOTS of rain.....four solid days of rain.  We celebrated Kelsey's 9th birthday party on Saturday.  It was a circus theme with circus games, bean bag toss, dart shoot, ping pong toss and about 5 other games, and yes there was a real live clown there!!  I took some pictures of course.  Great time had by all.  Family BBQ on Saturday as well.  Saw a baby black bear in Terra Nova Nat'l Park on the way down as well.  Will post just a few pics as I took about 350 pictures for the whole weekend.  No sunshine yet today but fingers crossed.

Not sure what to write about today....

Haven't even taken any pictures yet today....well it's raining, again!  No surprise there lately.  Jess got home last night. Soooo good to have her home for the summer.  Nice change having her bring in bags and bags of groceries from her apt as it's usually the other way around.  Oh well, it's stuff  I bought in the beginning of the semester for the apt and she didn't want it left there all summer.

We are going to my Mom's for the weekend.  Leaving today, so technically today is Friday for us. Kelsey is having her birthday party on Saturday so will def take some pics then.  Kelsey is my almost 9 year old niece.  My family is scattered between Burin and Edmonton.  Wish I had a rope that could pull Edmonton closer.  We will all be reunited (well most of us) for my niece's wedding in August. That will be at The Wilds Golf Couse. You will read and see more of that later as I am doing her wedding photos....gulp.  Haven't done a wedding shoot before.  Should be interesting.

Anyway, if I take a picture later, will upload it.  Have a great day, despite the weather.

Post Script!  I did get around to taking a couple of pictures afterwards....just around the house stuff.  Here is one of them.

My Little Bird Moves Home Today!!!

My little bird (my daughter Jessica) moves home today for the summer!!  She starts her summer job the middle of June.  I am one excited Momma :)

Back to the real birds, the Swallows are chirping outside my bedroom window since before 7 am.  I love watching them flint and frolick.  Of course the bird house is on my clothes line pole so needless to say, it's hard putting out a line of wash to dry.  Had a Robin perch on the bird house for a quick rest.  I managed to get some pictures, so will post a few here.

It's a sunny day here in Glovertown.  Have a great day everyone!

Rainy Day

Haven't seen the Tree Swallows yet this morning, maybe they are staying in from the rain. Going to Gander with my friend today.  I don't have a bird photo for today so here is one of an old tree stump in my yard. Through my eyes, it reminds me of a Tribal carving....you may see otherwise.  Have a great day, despite the weather.

My Birding Experiences: It's Monday and Sunny

It's Monday and Sunny

What more could you ask for on a Monday?  The Tree Swallows are back defending their ground against the Starlings.  Nature is so interesting.  I have limited space on my clothes line now as the little Tree Swallows like to perch there next to the bird house.  Oh well, I won't complain.  Watching them most of the day, great entertainment.
Yesterday, Derek and I went to Twillingate and Summerford. Got some nice photos.  Saw lots of Robins and Gulls but nothing new for me.  Going to Cape St Marys to see the birds there in a couple of weeks...looking forward to that.

Here's my little Tree Sparrow on the clothesline today :)  Birds sure can put a song in your heart♥

Have a great day and week!!
p.s. Wish he would turn around for his picture :)

What Bird?

Took a day excursion to Twillingate area and found this bird on the beach at Summerford.  Appears to be Gull like but not sure about the beak and the pattern on the back.  Can anyone identify for me please?  Thanks

My birding experience since February 2011 in Glovertown

So I am new to birding but am catching on. Have had a feeder in my yard since Feb 2011.  Yesterday, I put out a bird house and viola, two Tree Sparrows have put claim on it already.  Happy me :)  Here are some of my bird pictures.
